How to Create the Perfect Guest Room
The most luxurious retreat can start even in the most modest guest room. Here's my guest room essentials checklist:
- A comfortable bed with freshly ironed Egyptian cotton percale sheets (Use lavender linen water when pressing sheets for an extra special touch).
- Lots of fluffy pillows: two European squares for reading in bed and four down pillows, Dacron pillows for guests with allergies.
- A cotton coverlet or blanket and a duvet with a crisp cotton cover folded at the end of the bed.
- A comfy reading chair & ottoman or chaise lounge for napping or reading (Don't forget the lightweight throw and a down-filled pillow).
- A large bedside table with a good reading light, fresh flowers, small clock, a pitcher & water glass, notepad, and pen. It's also nice to have a stack of classics and latest top reads, and current magazines.
- A small flat-screen TV
- Fresh fruit and some yummy biscuits
- A bench at the end of the bed or a luggage rack
- A place to hang clothes with matching wooden hangers
- A writing table with stationary, postcards, stamps and a cup of pens that can also be used as a dressing table or for a laptop.
- For the bath
- Thick absorbent cotton towels
- A plush white terry robe & slippers
- A scented candle
- A hair dryer
- Shampoo, conditioner, body wash, Special bath oil, body lotion in a fresh unisex scent
- A stash of toothbrushes, toothpaste, aspirin, razor & shave cream, sunscreen, Band-Aids and extra toilet paper & tissues.
- If sharing your bathroom be sure that it is clean and well stocked with special soaps and clean, plush towels for your guests. Remove any clutter or anything you may not want your visitors to see.
